Executive Management Class: A Written Report on the Special Interview with Mr. Albino Limketkai

INTRODUCTION
Last October 6, 2007, we have an interview for our Executive Management Class with the most inspiring and dynamic businessman in Cagayan de Oro - Mr. Albino U. Limketkai.  He is the Executive Vice-President-Chief Operating Officer (EVP-COO) of Limketkai & Sons, Inc. operates a mall here in Cagayan de Oro City that meets the expectations of customers its world-class shopping, fine dining, and business matching.”  He is also engaged in the manufacture and processing of corn oil and coconut oil of which its product is called Marca Leon.

ON PERSONAL QUALITIES
He believes that a business owner is only as good as his personal attributes or qualities. Looking at the operation of his business the personal qualities or attributes definitely foreshadow the operation of the business. The image of the person's entrepreneurial skills or business acumen directly connects to management style and personal qualities and attributes. It is a necessity for people in the business world today to incorporate personal qualities that are necessary for survival in a competitive market. Businesses that have a step up on the competition tend to exhibit steadiness throughout the workforce. As an employer, he values dependable employees. Dependability is the most important personal quality a businessman can possess. He believes that one must keep with what works and at the same time keep up with the change in times. The personal quality of business acumen is another important trait of a businessman. His beliefs stem from previous experiences that have made him into the businessman that he is today. Some personal qualities are more beneficial than others. He believes determination is the ultimate factor in judging a person on their entrepreneurial capabilities and success. Dependability, business acumen, and unselfishness are important personal qualities that a businessman must also possess. It takes many different personal qualities for a person to become successful a successful businessman.

ON PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
He believes that the characteristics of some company builders from days past differ from those building businesses today. Today, local is global. "You can get so connected with a dream that you lose touch with where you are. We had gotten so much acceptance in such a short time. “  He credited their companies' success to novel, unique, or proprietary ideas.  He described the ideas for their companies as ordinary or mundane but with superior execution, it brought them success. He believes that the only thing a good idea guarantees today is that it will be quickly copied. One should know the business.   New competitors create new categories and new price points. He makes it a point that business is part of his personal financial plan.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE TO OTHER CEOs
His competitive advantage over the other CEOs are: he have dependable people and he blends the old and the new with what works in his business. When it comes time to run his mall; the business insight of being old-fashioned but keeping up with the times saved him the hard learned lessons. With hard work, pure determination, and an inner drive to work hard allows him to see the job to completion. Reaping the rewards makes it worth the sacrifice.

STRATEGIES
One of his strategies includes letting his sons study abroad in order to gain new and innovative ideas for the benefit of his business because it will be his sons who will succeed in his position and operates their businesses abroad and here in thePhilippines.

SUMMARY
Mr. Limketkai operates a world-class shopping mall in Cagayan de Oro City and also engaged in the manufacture and processing of corn and coconut oils.

CONCLUSION
Mr. Limketkai emphasized attitude in his business.  A person with a right attitude coupled with a good business acumen will surely succeed as a businessman.  It reminds me of a quote on attitude from Frank Outlaw that says:
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Indeed, the quote applies with every person who aspires to be a successful businessman.
