ABSTRACT

Absin, Nelson B, Bokingo, Kizzy Ann R. and Caragos, Odette Leh V., MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION INVENTORY OF THE SELECTED GOVERNMENT OFFICES IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, 2006, a research prject presented to Dr. Jerry  G. Roble, Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City, 2006.

Knowing how to communicate well is very crucial because communication is used to avoid and solve problems, give tasks, build cooperation, maximize performance and satisfaction. One of the key communicator is the administrator of an organization. The administrator’s efficiency in communication relies on the people’s understanding the meaning and replying in such a way that the conversation will move in the manner it is expected to go.  As a good communicator the administrator must remember, “It is not what you say, but it is how you say it” that matters.

The study aimed to validate the Management Communication Inventory (MIS) of Philip R. Harris in application to the administrator’s from the three government offices in Cagayan de Oro City; to assess the profile of the administrator’s such as their age, gender, educational attainment, designations and length of service in the government; to determine the administrator’s communication level; to know the relationship of the administrator’s communication level with respect to their age, gender, educational attainment, designation and length of service in the government ; and to evaluate the administrator’s communication level from the three selected government offices, namely: DOLE-RTWPB Region X, MOGCHS, QUEDANCOR Region X.

The study focused only on the administrators from the three selected government offices, namely, DOLE-RTWPB Region X, MOGCHS and QUEDANCOR Region X .   The samples were selected purposely with only ten (10) respondents were obtained from each office.  The profiles of the administrators were limited only to their age, gender, educational attainment and length of service in the government.

The result of the study showed that majority of the respondents are at age bracket  41 – 50 years. Only five respondents are at the age bracket 20 – 30 years. There are seven respondents who are at the retirable age (51 above). This implies that respondents of selected government administrators’ are mature and responsible to take responsibility as government administrators.

The management communication level was compared when they were grouped according  offices namely: DOLE-RTWPB Region 10, QUEDANCOR Region X and MOGCHS, The obtained means are as follows: 3.44 ( very satisfactory) 2.98 ( moderately satisfactory ) and 3.38 (very satisfactory).

Using analysis of variance, the obtained f-value is 19.47 , which reached the significant level. This findings is an indication that government offices as a variable was  an operant. A further analysis of the means shows that the difference in value was only numerical. Furthermore, when they were grouped according  to offices, it revealed that there is significant difference of the management communication level of three offices.
