Problem:
Mr. Sorensen, An American
is not familiar with the Filipino Values.
Objective:
To solve management cultural
gap and salary loan problem.
Criteria
or Areas of Consideration:
- Culture gap
- Job designation
Courses
of Action:
- Mr. Sorenson should
understand the Filipino Values, Traits and Peculiarities in relation to
Management.
a.
He
should orient himself with Filipino Values by immersing himself with the
Filipino culture, values, traits and peculiarities through his day to day
contact with his Filipino staffs.
- By assigning the
salary loans to the personnel manager, Mr. Fajardo, his function as such is now compromised because now, he has
the authority to grant loans to people that he is “taking care off”. The granting of Loans by Mr. Fajardo has
now become an “obligation” rather than a “function” in order to satisfy
the employees needs and wants. The
Filipino Value of “Pakikisama” would make it hard for Mr. Fajardo to
decline the Loans to employees who’s Moral and “esprit de corps” is of his
utmost concern, thus forcing Mr. Fajardo to break company policies with
regard to the granting of salary loans.Mr. Fajardo’s Function as the
Salary Loans officer has turned into an Obligation as his role as the
personnel manager is apparent when he said “If he didn’t get the loan, I am afraid it would affect his mental
attitude toward the company”. The Filipino Value of Pakikisama is
obvious when he stated: “Besides,
he has been with us for ten years.” Mr. Sorensen should delegate the
Salary Loans to the Comptroller, Mr. Gaston, so that Mr. Fajardo can focus
on his job as a Personnel Manager, and that his function as such will not
be compromised. Mr. Gaston has less
contact with personnel, thus, limiting the exposure to the “pakikisama”
with his colleagues so he could always present the clear-cut policy of the
company
Recommendation:
All courses of
action (1 and 2).
