Management by Objectives as an Organizational Development (OD) Intervention in a Finance Division

Title of the Case:
Management by Objectives as an OD Intervention in a Finance Division

Problems:
  1. What practices in the case would be helpful to apply in your organization?
  2. How might you modify the practices in the case to better suit your organization?
  3. What did you learn overall from the case?

Answer:
  1. The previous practice of the case manifest lucidly what our organization is experiencing at present.  The practices that would be helpful in my organization are the following:
    1. Complaints should be addressed objectively
    2. Every employee especially those who are new should be oriented with the company’s basics such as its goals, vision, mission and philosophy.  Even old employees should also be reoriented for them to be reminded always of the company’s reason for existence.
    3. OD Intervention shall follow the SMART rule so that employees will be constantly guided with their goal in the company.

  1. The practices that were mentioned in the case were really helpful in my company because we also lacked in that aspect. To apply the best practices in our organization, it would be best to hire a consultant to implement it to us because if we will implement the same in our office, resistance with the subordinate would always be there and of course, the head had a tendency to go back to the old doing so the intervention might be in vain.  However, if we hire a consultant, there is a big possibility that it will be a success because it will be checked in a full cycle.

  1. The important realizations I discovered from the case are the following:
    1. Indeed, OD Intervention should be carefully planned and continuously implemented for it to become successful.
    2. Objectives should be clearly laid out so that everybody could understand and help.
