Future and Change Management Case Study: Motorola: The Next Generation of Change Management

Title of the Case:
Motorola: The Next Generation of Change Management

Problems:
  1. What practices in the case would be helpful to apply in your organization?
  2. How might you modify the practices in the case to better suit your organization?
  3. What did you learn overall from the case?
Answer:
  1. There are two helpful practices in the case that would be applicable in my organization, to wit:
    1. Benchmarking and self-reference
    2. Teamwork
  1. In my organization, it would be best to benchmark some best practices in a private organization like what Motorola have done with Nokia. The product features is already there but they added some of it so that it would have an advantage over the other.  It could also be done in our organization, continuously improve our operations knowing that the system is already there but add some of it so that we will come out as one of the best government agency in the region.  Then, teamwork is also one of the helpful practices which Motorola had implemented later on while doing away with the internal competition among divisions.  Competition is good if it deals with the demand and supply of the product but if it is within the organization, it is best to brainstorm and work together for the best of the company.
  1. The important realizations I discovered from the case are the following:
    1. Continuously improve oneself and anticipate the future needs of the market;
    2. Teamwork is the best strategy ever;
    3. Careful planning for any project conceptualize to minimize cost but still maximize profit;
    4. Risk-taking is part and parcel of investment.
