Management Case Study: Celestial Seasonings

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
What environmental trends seem to be fueling sales growth and pose threats to the sales and profits of Celestial Seasonings herbal supplements?

OBJECTIVE:
To determine the best analysis of Celestial Seasonings herbal supplements environmental trends that fuel its growth and pose threats to its sales and profits.

AREAS OF CONSIDERATION:
Market Analysis, Cost, Celestial Seasonings Needed Information

ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION
1.      To make a SWOT Analysis.

Advantage:
It will immediately answer the problem of the company and no cost from the company because anybody could make a SWOT Analysis in their slack period.

 Disadvantage:
Very simple and would answer only the problem in the short run but what about in the long run?

2.      To hire a researcher to study the environmental trend.

Advantages:
The research would do better fort the company than risking the whole company to the competition in getting ahead in knowing the potential of their product and it will help them forecast and plan for more strategies/programs that would result from it.

Disadvantage:
The research would help the company in the long run but what about in the short run?

3.      To do both making a SWOT Analysis and hiring a researcher to study the environmental trend.

Advantage:
It will answer both the problem in the short run and in the long run.  The best option ever because it will help Celestial Seasonings get the market analysis it needed.

RECOMMENDATION
I recommend the third alternative because the company needs both of it to address the problem in the short run and in the long run.  It is also the best exploration of possibilities.
