Title of the
Case:
Donna Dubinsky and
Apple Computer, Inc. (A)
Problems:
- What practices in the case would be
helpful to apply in your organization?
- How might you modify the practices
in the case to better suit your organization?
- What did you learn overall from the
case?
Answer:
- There are two helpful
practices in the case that would be applicable in my organization, to wit:
- Proper Communication
- Strategic Proposal
- The two aforementioned
practices in the case were some of the lapses experienced by most organization
including my own. In the case, it
was manifested that proper communication was not observed, to whom it
should be delivered first and when, which caused conflict internally among
personnel. To implement such in my
own organization, proper orientation should be given first on
communication and guide on how to properly communicate in a hierarchical
organization so that bypassing/encroaching to one’s authority would not
happen. Strategic proposal was also
one of the emphasis, however, if I will use the same strategy in proposing
a change to my boss, it would be best to specify also the benefits of
having it and the implication of not adapting to it also with due
transparency to everyone in the organization so that everyone could
understand and to avoid major resistance also from them.
- The important
realizations I discovered from the case are the following:
- Conflict would arise
if proper communication will not be observed in the organization; and
- When making a
proposal that would entail change, one should ensure that the proposal
would be transparent. It should
also specify the cost and benefit analysis of adapting it, the
implication if it’s not adapted.
